Summary | 0007302: Adding payment (Credut/Debit/Gift) functionality for US/Canadian Payment Processors
Description | Implementing Payments (credit card, gift card and pin debit) into OpenBravo will provide this system the ability to compete effectively. PCI-DSS compliance requires this system to be accredited by an independent third party and there are many issues that make this very difficult and will require continual recertification. Also, there needs to be a way to support all the major Canadian and US payment processors.
Proposed Solution | Precidia Technologies is a leading player in payment application appliances. Essentially to alieviate the concerns around security and Visa accrediation, Precidia develops an API that connects software systems like OpenBravo POS to our appliance. Then our appliance talks to pretty much every major processor in North America. Unlike Gateway services, this model is where the customer buys his own appliance, and since the appliance talks directly to the processor, there are no additional gateway fees. This is a major advantage, as the merchant/developer owns his own certified gateway appliance(which is actually a router - we will be porting this into a Cisco router soon). We have successfully developed and tested an interface to OpenBravo to processes credit, debit and gift cards and monitor cash transactinos. All this then is pushed to a web page which then reports all payment activity. Groups of boxes can be summarized into a single report, and detail reporting per transaction can be extracted. Over Christmas 2008, we were able to run a successful pilot in a mall. Our API takes control of the magstripe and card data entry as well as offloading all data store into a secure appliance. We have also implemented a secure protocol for set up and validation of the end terminal. Recently we submitted this release to PCI-PSS/PABP certification and should receive final accrediation shortly. The question I have is how do we present this solution to the community and submit some of the hooks that we submitted. Your input would be appreciated, deepak@precidia.com

Deepak Thank you very much for submitting this contribution request. I assume, from your description, that this is related primarily to Openbravo POS. Can you please confirm? If that is the case, we have integrated support for several payment gateway services (primarily European based) as part of the upcoming POS 2.30 release. We could explore the possibility of integrating your contribution as part of that same release to get coverage of the US and Canadian market. Once that is done, you can present this to our Community in various manners: 1) Advertise it in the POS forums 2) We are just about to launch a forge dedicated to Openbravo; you can register your integration as a project in that Forge. The beta version of the Forge is schedule to be launched very soon (in a matter of days) 3) In April, we will host the Openbravo World Conference (http://worldconference.openbravo.com/ [^]). You can submit a request for a speaker slot by responding to the call for papers (http://worldconference.openbravo.com/contactus.php [^]) and present your solution there. |

Assuming that this contribution is related to POS, I assign it to Adrián with whom you can discuss the best way to integrate it in the product. |

Paolo, My apologies for the delay in responding to your note... Deepak has asked me to run with this as he is tied up on a number of other tasks right now. You are correct in that we are looking to add to Openbravo POS. - we would be interested in integrating our contribution in your upcoming 2.30 release - as Deepak mentioned in his earlier note, unlike gateways, we offer customers direct connectivity to their specific processor (lowering their per transaction costs) - we see our contribution as country specific in that, at least in Canada and the US, each county has its own market with: - their own payments system - separate payment processors (although this is likely to change over time) - separate certification processes - separate security regimes and requirements I would also like to understand how this would work from a licensing perspective moving forward - can you provide some insight?
