Summary | 0006762: Misleading options in Product Setup
Description | When you are setting up a product you have to specify the Product Type: Expense, Item, Service or Resource. A bunch of sub-options appear based on the option you have chosen. However, some of the options are not relevant. For example, for Expense Type you also get the 'Discontinued' checkbox which isn't relevant for an Expense. The fact that the checkboxes change to reflect the Product Type makes the user (or me anyway) think that they are all relevant.
Steps To Reproduce | 1 From the Application menu, select '''Master Data Management > Product''' 2 Select an item from the Product Type list. Some checkboxes appear that may or may not be relevant.
Proposed Solution | Don't display irrelevant options. Care is needed though - Some of the options are irrelevant in some but not all cases (for example, if you buy something and expense it, you need the 'Purchase' checkbox, but if the expense item is intangible like a taxi fare, you don't need the 'purchase' checkbox). I think we can safely say that an Expense item will never be discontinued, and probably that an Expense item will never also be a sales item.
