0038439: Not possible to Pick more quantity than expected even if the Product is configured as Is Quantity Variable

Description

Not possible to Pick more quantity than expected even if the Product is configured as Is Quantity Variable.

From the wiki: "Is Quantity Variable : If checked, goods shipment lines and sales invoice lines with quantity greater than quantity ordered are permitted for this product."

Steps To Reproduce

With AWO and AWO Sample data installed

As System Admin Mode:

Go to Windows, Tabs and Fields Window and search for Product Window
Select Product Tab
Remove the filter and look for Is Quantity Variable field. Set it as displayed

Log out and Log in as AWO QA Admin

Go to Product Window and select Ale Beer product
Set the flag Is Quantity Variable as checked

Create a new Sales Order for:
  - Organization: US
  - Business Partner: Healthy Food Supermarkets, Co.
  - Warehouse: US West Coast
Add a Line for:
  - Product: Ale Beer
  - Operative Quantity: 1
Book the Order

Click on Pick button and move to the Task created below the Line
Set 2 as Confirmed Quantity and click on Confirm button. This error is shown:
"Error processing Goods Movement process: There is more quantity to release than pending quantity of Product: US/0001, Attribute Set Instance: -, UOM: Ud and Storage Bin: AWOPrefTestUS001"

However, with Is Quantity Variable flag enabled it should be possible to ship or invoice more quantity than the originally ordered

(0104063) maarten1962 (reporter) 2018-04-24 18:38	AWO does not and will not recognize this flag because it is against "best-practise" that a whse decides to increase the qty. In the case of variable qty, AWO has the functionality of Referenced Inventory, that allows to BOX (=put a Reference on it) a specific qty from an existing storage detail. E.g.: Taking 534 gram of a 5 kg cheese would be done with a Reference/Box of 534 grams. The flag "Is Variable Qty" is a candidate to deprecate, if no longer used.
