0008455: Validation is date fields is not done correctly / always

Description

Validation of date fields to be correct dates is not done in a way which does present saving the incorrect value. Instead some other value is used and this is inconsistent between the value in the date-field and the value shown in the calendar popup.

Steps To Reproduce

Goto sales order
navigate to an existing order (or create and save a new one)
Enter: abc into the 'Date ordered' field
press save
The message 'Invalid date' is shown briefly
But the record is still saved
The value shown in the date field is 01-01-0001
When you open the calendar popup the value selected is instead 01-01-2001

Proposed Solution

Stop the save action when the date validation raises an error.
