0004817: Another character for searching strings instead of '%'
For Spanish and English keyboards (for other cases should be checked) typing '%' requieres two key presses. Using another character, (for example * on extended keyboards) will just requiere a single key type.

Personally, I do not see a reason to change character.
A better option is to avoid having to enter a special character in the first place, which can be achieved with a search engine such as Lucene

Think a user that usually works with two applications. In one has to press % (two key presses) while in the other application does not need to do it. This is a real user experience and in its opinion loses time.
Any solution that improves users experience will be great. If instead of two key presses just one is needed good, if no key presses are needed better.
