in BO:
create Discount and Promotion as price adjustment and fill the discount percent 50%.
choose product category as “only those defined” and add product category as "Electronic"

in POS:
choose product "Digital altimeter" but discount is not applied.

Digital altimeter's product category is meter and its parent is Electronics.

This is actually a feature request. The Product Category filter is not designed to work using the category tree, the discounts are supposed to be filtered explicitly by the category especified.

This change would be a relevant project, and apart from that, it would also cause a change of behaviour that some customers might not necessarily like.

As it is a feature request, we will not be implementing it for now.
