The display logic of the tabs are evaluated after a record is selected in the grid. Only when there are no visible records in the grid, the display logic based on preference is not evaluated. The display logic of the tab could be a combination of preference and a parent tab field value. This is the reason why it is evaluated after a record is selected in grid.
