0000119: [KS] Keyboard shortcuts should have an option to keep disabled
If I am a "old school" user that would not use keyboard shortcuts, probably the key combinations will be an obstacle to my daily use, so I would prefer to keep shortcuts disabled.

Can you please explain why?

As an "old school" user, I use OpenbravoERP as a native web app. Keyboard shortcuts to actions, buttons and field positioning are not part of my mental model ( http://www.usabilityfirst.com/glossary/term_1155.txl [^] ) of a web app. For me, OpenbravoERP do not (and should not) looks like as a desktop app. I like to use shortcuts for my browser, and even more, I have my Firefox customized with my own shortcuts (you can take a look at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=shortcuts&cat=all [^] to realize the kind of things that can be added).
So, for me, I would not like OpenbravoERP's keyboard shortcuts interfere with my own shortcuts and I would see this new feature (that I have no doubt it is a cool one) as an obstacle.

Hi...
I can understand your opinion for using shortcuts in firefox, but i think we speak here about "using a erp system" not "using firefox".
Further i do not think you are a "old school" user, especially not in the erp world, otherwise you know that old erp systems are only driven by keyboard shortcuts and I've meet by my own people, they was able to input much more faster his commands on the keyboard, as the screen can follow... can you imagine wath will happen, or efectively wath is happened, when we are coming with a new gui, and give them a mouse... this people are going creazy without keyboard features.

Hi Wall-e,

A couple of misunderstandings here, let me explain a little more.

We do not speak about "using an ERP", we speak about "using a fully web ERP". So yes, that includes "using firefox", since you cannot separate one from the other. I have my Openbravo tab in the same browser I use to read wiki, news, gmail, see youtube videos or whatever.
And, you are right, by "old school" I did not mean a text-based ERP user. I consider myself an "old school" user within Openbravo ERP life cycle, since I joined the company more than 2 years ago and I have clicked around thousands of hours since then.
Just as an extra note, let me explain why I raised this feature request. As you may know, depending your browser's language, you may have different key for some shortcuts such as File > Save (Ctrl+S in English, Ctrl+G in Spanish) and Edit > Select All (Ctrl+A in English, Ctrl+E in Spanish). So, if you use these shortcuts, you may encounter issues regarding Openbravo's Keyboard Shortcuts. So, it will be nice to decide whether I prefer the "Switch to Grid" Openbravo's shortcut for Ctrl+G or the Spanish Firefox's "Save as".
As I see it, the feature can save lots of time once you get used to it, but shortcuts are a power user feature that can interfere with point and click users.

Cheers, PL.

Hi plujan
You're right from this point of view...
Maybe in the future it is necessary to make possible to define the shortcuts on user or role level, at least at org level...
maybe there are available standard templates, which can be changed and so are changed the shortcuts, maybe this templates changes automatically if the language of the user, role, org changes will be changed....
But I'm not sure if every time is possible to separate firefox and OB shurtcuts and in this case the OB shurtcuts must be favorized...
and im not sure if this for the moment is soo important to discuss about to much ;o)
ok, thank you for your feedback,
BR, Walter

Guys, thanks the interesting thread. I agree that you should be able to switch keyboard shortcuts off.

For next time: can you please move these kinds of discussion to the UX Lab forum, for example here: http://forge.openbravo.com/plugins/espforum/view.php?group_id=100&forumid=886353&topicid=5714681 [^] so the whole community can participate (or lurk). Thanks, Rob.

Assigned to David Baz as he is in charge of the keyboard shortcuts for Openbravo 3. It might be an idea to have a an on-and-off "switch" in the same window where you define them.
